The Wild Hogs play kickin’ new and used Stringband music with a fresh Oregon twist featuring the superb songwriting of Sid Beam and John Donoghue, with original instrumentation and a love of fun.
Wild Hog in the Woods has been entertaining audiences for decades at Northwest festivals and venues large and small. Their unique brand of Oregon Americana music pulls from Oldtime, Swing, traditional Jazz, and cartoon music featuring the stellar songwriting of Sid Beam and John Donoghue.
Hershel Olmsted (banjo, guitar, musical saw, vocals), formerly with the Luckiamute Stringband, started the Wild Hogs 30 years ago as a traditional old-time fiddle and banjo stringband. With the addition of John Donoghue (mandolin, guitar, banjo-Uke, harmonica, kazzusaphone, percussion, vocals), John Simonds (stand-up bass, vocals), and Sid Beam (guitar, vocals), formerly with Magpie, the band’s music wondered into new and exciting territory. Their original music sounds like it could have been penned in a bygone era, yet it somehow hits a chord with today’s life experience.
John Donoghue, aka J.D. Ruse, will showcase one of his magical Crankies for amusement and delight. It is hard to leave a Wild Hog show without a grin and new pep in your step.
